Over a long career, I've worked for a number of organisations, in different industries and I have absolutely no doubt that data informed leaders are more effective.

Whatever the area of expertise, their teams outperform those in the organisation who aren't. This probably isn't surprising, you would expect leaders who make good use of their systems and associated visualised data (and the latter is key because many systems don't have good reporting enabled as a default) to perform better. What may be surprising, is that so many leaders in many organisations, both large and small, are not using data in a meaningful and effective way.

The answer, I believe, is that extracting data, building reports and dashboards and ensuring a sustainable, timely data flow is both time-consuming and difficult to achieve if it's not your primary role.
